One-Line Bio

I am a Third Culture Kid with a deep interest in how food connects us all.

Biography

I grew up in Brazil, attended Brazilian schools, and became an anthropologist. I studied medicinal plants in the Brazilian Amazon, and documented the effects of a hydroelectric dam on fishing communities.

I live in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains with my husband of ten years, two dogs, and a cat; my stepdaughter graces us with occasional visits on college breaks. They each make me glad to be alive.

Portuguese is still the language of my heart, and Brazil is where I learned to be a human being.

These days I think a lot about food - how it can bring people together or split them apart, what I can do to support local food systems, and how much I love to cook.

Interests

Food, politics of food, local farms, organic gardening, medicinal plants, canning, traditional forms of food preservation.
